The homeowner of this case study had a house which was in good condition, clean, and showed no initial signs of bed bugs. However, the homeowner had a frequent visitor who would come over to their house.
Unfortunately, this visitor was dealing with hoarding conditions in her own residence and had an active bed bug infestation. Without realizing it, bed bugs were brought into the homeowner’s house through repeated visits.
The bed bugs eventually reached the homeowner’s bedroom, and that was where she first noticed these pests. Once she noticed them, she immediately searched for bed bug exterminators in Toronto and stumbled across us. She called our entomologist, told the situation, and was booked for an inspection the very same day.
Inspection
When our entomologist came to the scene the very first confirmed sign of bed bugs was found in the living room. During the inspection, our entomologist discovered a live bed bug inside the homeowner’s chair.

Our entomologist conducted a thorough inspection of the entire home, including each and every room. He identified all the places were the bed bugs were and place in which the bed bugs had laid eggs. Activity was found in furniture, along baseboards, and on the floor.
A treatment plan was developed using mechanical and integrated pest management methods. This included physically crushing visible bed bugs and eggs, vacuuming large numbers of bed bugs found on the floor, and targeting key harbourage areas.
After treatment, prevention monitors were installed to track any remaining activity. The homeowner was also provided with practical prevention tips to reduce the risk of reintroduction in the future.
The treatment was successful, the infestation was eliminated, and the homeowner was relieved to have her home back to normal.
